Why We Started Whenua Roots Dog Toppers 🐾

At Whenua Roots, everything starts with our own pack.

What began as us trying to improve our dogs’ food slowly turned into late nights dehydrating ingredients in the kitchen, testing blends on our own dogs, researching natural nutrition, and watching real changes happen right in front of us.

Better coats.
Healthier guts.
Cleaner bowls.
Happier dogs.

We live rurally in the Far North of Aotearoa surrounded by animals, whenua, mud, chaos, and a whole lot of love. Our dogs aren’t “just dogs” here — they’re family. They’re part of the daily routine, farm life, security, companionship, and everything in between.

That’s why we wanted to create something simple, honest, and natural.

No flashy gimmicks.
No mystery ingredients.
No mass production.

Just real ingredients we actually feed our own dogs.

Each blend was inspired by one of our own pack members and their individual needs:

Focused on skin, coat and joint support using ingredients like green lipped mussel and blueberry.

Built around digestion and gut support with ingredients like tripe and pumpkin.

Every batch is handcrafted in small amounts right here on our whenua using carefully selected ingredients and a whole lot of trial and error from our own dogs first.

Some days the kitchen looks like a science lab.
Other days it looks like a tornado hit a butcher shop 😂

But seeing dogs genuinely thrive from better nutrition makes every bit of mess worth it.

Whenua Roots isn’t just about selling dog toppers.
