What are Whenua Roots dog toppers?
Our toppers are complementary additions designed to be sprinkled over your kurī’s regular meals.
They’re made using real, carefully selected ingredients and are an easy way to add extra flavour and wholefood goodness to their everyday bowl.
They are not a complete diet or replacement for a nutritionally balanced dog food.
Which Whenua Roots blend should I choose?
Our four signature blends each have a different focus:
MIA | Daily Balance
Our everyday organ-rich blend made with chicken heart, beef heart and liver. A great all-rounder for everyday feeding, active kurī and fussy eaters.
NUKU | Gut Boost
Made with tripe, pumpkin and liver. Created to add wholefood goodness while supporting everyday digestive wellbeing.
GOTTI | Coat & Shine
Made with green-lipped mussel, liver and blueberry. Created with skin, coat, mobility and everyday wellbeing in mind.
AWHI | Mama Support
Made with liver, beef heart and chicken heart. A nutrient-rich complementary topper created for māma dogs during pregnancy, nursing and recovery.
Pregnant and nursing dogs have increased nutritional requirements, so Mama Support should always be fed alongside an appropriate complete diet.
How much topper should I feed?
As a general guide:
Small kurī: 1 teaspoon
Medium kurī: 1–2 teaspoons
Large kurī: 1 tablespoon
XL & working kurī: 1–2 tablespoons
Our toppers are designed to complement your kurī’s normal diet rather than replace it.
How long will a 100g pack last?
That depends on the size of your kurī and how much you use.
Smaller dogs using around a teaspoon at a time will naturally get more servings from a 100g pack than a large or working dog using one or two tablespoons.
Can I use Whenua Roots toppers every day?
Yes, our toppers can be added to everyday meals when fed in appropriate amounts as a complementary food.
You can also rotate between suitable blends to add variety to their bowl.
Can I use the toppers with kibble, raw or home-prepared food?
Absolutely. Sprinkle them over kibble, raw food or another appropriate complete diet.
If you prepare your kurī’s entire diet yourself, make sure their overall diet meets their complete nutritional requirements.
What is Build Your Kurī’s Bowl?
Build Your Kurī’s Bowl is our personalised Whenua Roots experience.
You tell us about your kurī — including their name, age, breed, size, preferences, sensitivities and the type of everyday support you’re looking for.
You then choose their bowl size, base blend and optional functional boosters, and we create their blend in small batches.
Because every kurī is different, ingredients may vary depending on the selections you make.
What boosters can I choose?
Our bowl builder may include options such as Moana Mussel Boost, Organ Power, Berry Antioxidant Blend and Calm & Coat Support.
Available boosters can change as we develop the range, so the options shown on the Build Your Kurī’s Bowl product page are always the best place to see what’s currently available.
What is a Personalised Pack Box?
Our Personalised Pack Box is made especially for your kurī.
Depending on the pack selected, it can include personalised topper blends, natural treats, custom labels or graphics, wellness extras and other Whenua Roots goodies.
They’re perfect for birthdays, gotcha days, new puppies, gifts — or just because your kurī deserves to be spoiled.
Are Whenua Roots products natural?
We focus on simple, recognisable ingredients and avoid unnecessary fillers and artificial colours.
Individual ingredients vary between products, so always check the product description and packaging if your kurī has allergies or sensitivities.
Where are your products made?
Whenua Roots products are handcrafted in small batches on our whenua in rural Northland, Aotearoa New Zealand.
That small-batch approach is an important part of who we are.

How should I store the toppers and treats?
Keep dehydrated products sealed, cool and dry, away from moisture and direct sunlight.
Always follow any specific storage instructions printed on the product packaging.
What are Whenua Roots Liver Bites?
Our Liver Bites are a simple 100% beef liver treat, slowly dehydrated in small batches.
They can be broken into smaller pieces for training or given as a reward. Because liver is nutrient-rich, treats should be fed in moderation alongside your kurī’s regular balanced diet.
What are the Natural Sheep Hoof Chews?
Our Natural Sheep Hoof Chews are single-ingredient chews made for dogs who love to chew.
Always supervise your kurī with any chew, choose a size appropriate for them, provide fresh water and remove the chew if it becomes small enough to swallow or develops sharp pieces.
Are your products suitable for puppies?
Some Whenua Roots products may be suitable as complementary treats or toppers for puppies, depending on their age, size and diet.
Puppies have specific nutritional requirements for growth, so our products should not replace an appropriate complete puppy food.
If you’re unsure about a particular product for your puppy, ask us before ordering or check with your veterinarian.
My kurī has allergies or a medical condition. Which blend should I use?
Tell us about known allergies or sensitivities when ordering a personalised product and always check the ingredient information before feeding.
Whenua Roots products are foods and complementary toppers — they aren't veterinary medicines and aren't intended to diagnose, treat or cure medical conditions.
If your kurī has a diagnosed condition or requires a therapeutic diet, speak with your veterinarian before changing or supplementing their food.
What is the Whenua Roots Guardian Collar™?
The Guardian Collar™ combines our Whenua Roots collar design with an NFC-enabled digital profile.
A compatible smartphone can tap the tag to access the information you've chosen to include in your kurī’s profile.
It adds another way for someone to access useful information if your kurī is found — but it does not replace microchipping, council registration or an identification tag where these are required.
Does the Guardian Collar track my dog's location?
No. NFC is not GPS and the Guardian Collar does not continuously track your kurī’s location.
The NFC tag works when a compatible device is brought close to it and opens the linked digital profile.
Can I update my kurī’s Guardian profile?
Yes. The idea behind the digital profile is that relevant information can be kept current without replacing the physical collar or tag.
As we finalise the Guardian Collar rollout, the product page will contain the current instructions and available profile features.
Do you offer subscriptions?
Yes. Selected products can be ordered through the Whenua Roots Bowl Club, allowing you to keep your kurī’s pantry stocked without having to remember to reorder every time.

When do Whenua Roots orders ship?
We make our products in small batches and currently dispatch Whenua Roots orders every Wednesday.
Order cut-offs and shipping information can change, so check the current shipping information at checkout for your order.
Do you ship throughout New Zealand?
Whenua Roots products are available for delivery around New Zealand where the product and delivery service allow.
Shipping options and costs are calculated or displayed during checkout.
Do you offer Afterpay?
Yes. 💚 Afterpay is available on eligible Whenua Roots purchases through our online store
Is Dlish Pies included in these FAQs?
