Whenua Roots toppers are functional meal additions designed to support your dog’s everyday wellbeing using real ingredients.
They’re made to sprinkle over your dog’s normal food to add flavour, variety, and natural nutritional support.
Every blend is inspired by our own dogs — Mia, Gotti, Awhi & Nuku — and handcrafted in small batches from our rural homestead in the Far North of Aotearoa NZ.
Is this complete dog food?
No — our toppers are designed to complement your dog’s existing diet, not replace it completely.
They can be fed alongside:
kibble
raw feeding
home cooked meals
mixed feeding styles
How do I use the toppers?
Simply sprinkle over your dog’s regular food daily.
You can feed them dry or lightly rehydrate with warm water if preferred.

Start small when introducing any new food and adjust depending on your dog’s size and needs.
How long does a 100g blend last?
This depends on your dog’s size and feeding amount, but approximately:
🐾 Small dogs → 4–8 weeks
🐾 Medium dogs → 3–5 weeks
🐾 Large dogs → 2–4 weeks
🐾 XL / Working dogs → 1–3 weeks
A little goes a long way, especially when used daily as a topper rather than a full meal.

Absolutely.
Many customers rotate blends depending on their dog’s needs, lifestyle, season, or life stage.
Some dogs thrive on one blend daily, while others enjoy switching things up throughout the week.
Are your toppers natural?
Yes — our blends are made using real ingredients with no unnecessary fillers or junk.
We focus on functional ingredients such as:
meat & organs
pumpkin
green-lipped mussels
flaxseed
natural wellness boosters
Because we use real ingredients in small batches, colours and textures may vary slightly between batches.
That’s completely normal with natural products.
Are your toppers freeze dried?
No — our toppers are slowly dehydrated in small batches.
This helps preserve flavour and nutritional value naturally while keeping the product shelf stable.
Do the toppers need refrigeration?
No refrigeration is needed while sealed.
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and reseal after opening.
Are the toppers suitable for puppies?
Most blends are suitable for puppies over 8 weeks old when introduced gradually.
As with any new food, start slowly and monitor your pup.
If your dog has specific health conditions, we recommend checking with your vet first.
Are the toppers suitable for raw fed dogs?
Yes — our toppers work well alongside raw feeding, kibble, mixed feeding, or home cooked diets.

What if my dog is picky?
Picky eaters are actually one of the biggest reasons people try toppers.
The smell, texture, and flavour often helps encourage dogs to eat more enthusiastically.
When do you ship orders?
Because we’re based rurally in the Far North, we currently ship once weekly.
📦 Shipping Day → Wednesday
⏰ Order Cut-Off → Monday 10pm
Orders placed after Monday 10pm will roll over to the following week’s shipping run.
Why do you only ship once a week?
Whenua Roots is a small-batch rural business and we intentionally keep production personal and fresh rather than mass produced.
Weekly shipping allows us to:
✔ prepare fresh batches
✔ manage rural courier runs
✔ maintain quality control
✔ keep production small and hands-on
How long does shipping take?
Approximate delivery times after dispatch:
📍 North Island → 1–3 working days
📍 South Island → 2–5 working days
📍 Rural delivery → may take slightly longer
Tracking details are sent once your order has been shipped.
Do you ship NZ wide?
Yes — we currently ship throughout New Zealand.
Do you make everything yourselves?
Yes.

From ingredient prep to packaging orders, everything is made with care by our whanau.
Are your products tested?
Every blend is tested on our own dogs first — Mia, Gotti, Awhi & Nuku 🐾
If we wouldn’t feed it to our own pack, we won’t sell it.
