Kia ora, welcome to Whenua Roots.
We’re a whānau-run rural Aotearoa brand born from our love for our kurī, our whenua and the life we live every day in the Far North.
Whenua Roots began around our own kitchen and our own pack. We wanted simple, real products that we genuinely felt good about giving our kurī — and we wanted to know what was actually going into their bowls.
What started with our own dogs has grown into something much bigger.
Today, Whenua Roots is home to our small-batch dog toppers, natural treats, personalised bowls and our growing range of products designed around the connection between kurī and whānau.
Built from real life 🌿
Whenua Roots isn't something dreamed up in a boardroom.
It comes from rural life.
Animals at the gate. Dogs under our feet. Growing kai. Feeding stock. Making products. Packing orders. Raising our whānau and figuring things out as we go.
That everyday connection to animals and food shapes the way we create.
Our products are made in small batches with purpose, using carefully selected ingredients and without adding unnecessary fillers just for the sake of it.
We keep things hands-on because that's how Whenua Roots started — and that's something we don't want to lose as we grow.
Experience behind the brand
Before creating Whenua Roots, I spent more than 20 years working with food.
That experience taught me the importance of ingredients, preparation, consistency and knowing what goes into the food you're making.
Eventually that thinking followed me home to our dogs.
I started looking more closely at what was going into their bowls and experimenting with simple, functional ingredients for our own pack.
And that's where Whenua Roots really began.
Our pack is part of the story 🐾
Mia, Gotti, Awhi, Nuku and Awa aren't models added to our branding.
They're our dogs.
They live this life with us, and you'll see them throughout Whenua Roots because they're part of the reason the brand exists.
Several of our signature blends were inspired by individual members of our pack and what we wanted to add to their everyday bowls.
That's why you'll see their names and faces on our products.
They're part of the whakapapa of Whenua Roots.
More than what's in the bowl
Whenua Roots is growing beyond dog toppers.
We're building a range centred around the relationship between kurī, whenua and whānau — from natural nutrition and personalised products to our Guardian Collar™ and digital kurī profiles.
But however much Whenua Roots grows, the kaupapa stays the same:
Create with purpose. Keep it real. Look after our animals. Remember where we came from.
Made in the Far North
Whenua Roots is based on our rural homestead in the Far North of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Our food products are prepared in small batches rather than mass-produced, which allows us to remain closely involved in what we make.
Some batches may naturally look a little different from the last.
That's real food.
That's small-batch production.
And we're proud of it.
